Boca
Boca arrives with the momentum of a great comeback. The team from La Bombonera lost 1-0 to Vasco da Gama in the first leg and then won 3-1 at the Maracana, sealing a 3-2 aggregate victory. It will be the club's first continental final since the 2023 Copa Libertadores, also decided at the Maracana, where Boca lost to Fluminense.
For the club, the current run also opens the door to a historic season: Boca leads the 2026 Tabla Anual and is in the semifinals of the Copa Argentina, where it will face Banfield on November 14. The South American Cup final therefore comes amid a very favorable competitive context. The Argentine club's last continental title was the 2007 Copa Libertadores, won against Gremio.
Atlético Mineiro reached the final after beating Montevideo City Torque 3-2 on aggregate. The Brazilian side won 3-0 at home, then lost 2-0 in Uruguay. Coach Eduardo Domínguez will be without Alan Franco for the final because the player was sent off in the second leg of the semifinal. The absence is a significant loss for the Brazilian team.
The opponent also has a final disappointment behind it. Atlético Mineiro lost the 2025 Copa Sudamericana final to Lanús and the 2024 Copa Libertadores final to Botafogo at Monumental. Barranquilla therefore offers a chance to end two consecutive continental final defeats without a trophy.
- Boca seeks its first continental title since 2007.
- Atlético Mineiro aims to win its first Copa Sudamericana.
- The final will be played on November 21 at the Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla.
- The kickoff time has not yet been confirmed by the Conmebol.
- Boca is also in the Copa Argentina semifinals and leads the 2026 Tabla Anual.
- Atlético Mineiro will be without the suspended Alan Franco.
“The final is now set: Boca Juniors and Atlético Mineiro will compete for the 2026 Copa Sudamericana crown in Barranquilla.”Pablo Carreño, Deportes
Boca has the momentum, the support and a season that could become unforgettable. But Mineiro arrives with its own hunger and with one important absence. It will be a final of contrasts, in a neutral venue, with each team seeking a different kind of redemption. The xeneizeze has the ball; now comes the hardest part. Atlético will have to find a way to stop a Boca that does not intend to settle for just a final. Good luck to both teams. The trophy will be waiting in Barranquilla.
